It's great to come back to your work years later to enjoy it once more. I rememebr this from years past, and as much as I've changed, I will still always have this love for your art. The darkness, the macabre humor, the flowing design...it all complements each other for such a perfect final product, like all the diferent componets of creating a complex machine or the muscles, nerves, skin, and countless parts that work together in perfect synchronized unity to form a living being. Even as time went on, you stay true to this amazing form, and for this I applaud you.
I just love this. Its just, so dark and creepy you just can't stop looking at it.
I have a question about the gas masks (which is great). I noticed you make the mask seem somewhat alive in this and other works, as if its now part of the user's body. Is this an statement of how society (mainly my US society) live in a polluted world but instead of cleaning it up, we just try to live around it by artificial means? Like, we are living off our artificial parts that it becomes part of us, therefore making us look grotesque rather then superior?
I apologize if it isn't your reason but that is one thing about your art I love. You allow the viewer to make up their own interpretations and, to me, that is the best art.
Thanks much. You are correct, I do like to keep things vague in order to engage the viewer. I create art intuitively so I don't always know what they mean. How the viewer is just as important as I do.
Tha gas mask initially started because I always felt that gas masks were a great modern representation of death. They look like skulls in a way. The organic thing just kind of developed as I painted them. It just happened.
He make's me think of the big time industry owners, who's manurfacturing pollutes the environment(like the industry back ground) and maybe has his workers work in bad conditions, or over works them, or uses child labor, so many of them die( symbolized by the cemetry behind him). And he has his thumbs up as if saying, "Im doing no harm here! I am providing jobs for the poor. You just keep buying my products!" I guess, lying to us.......
If that is close at all, it may be completely wrong. but I guess that is what art is all about, your interpratation.
